Beta carotene
Beta-carotene, also called provitamin A, is a natural precursor to vitamin A. It is a fat-soluble vegetable pigment. Young pasture grass, haycobs, aeration hay and carrots also contain a lot of beta-carotene. In addition to protecting the skin and mucous membranes, beta-carotene is particularly important for the immune system and is responsible for vision. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Beta-carotene promotes fertility in mares and stallions. A high beta-carotene content in colostrum and milk from mares has been shown to reduce the susceptibility of foals to disease.
